LightSkinKeisha shares new single "Pop Sh*t Queen"

Rising rap star, actress and Decatur, Georgia native LightSkinKeisha shares her latest single, the brawling, effusive “Pop Sh*t Queen”

Above all, “Pop Sh*t Queen” knows just what it is: an unapologetically Southern hip-hop anthem. Keisha swirls over a beat that wouldn’t sound out of place on a latter day Three 6 hit or during T.I.’s Trap Muzik era. It both pays tribute to her city of Atlanta and reaches beyond into something universal to her region. Referencing Master P and Kendrick in the same breath, she leaves no stone unturned, after all, as she makes damn clear, there’s no level she sees as out of reach. Forget exuding confidence, she is all but bleeding it, tearing through the stage with punchlines and clever wordplay for days: “Big ole foreign, I call it a chariot / All this ass, I don’t know how to carry it.” She does’t need anyone to speak for her: “Hope when you tell him that you don’t fuck wit me / Make sure you let em know, it’s because you can’t.”

The video finds her without the slightest concern, tossing around designer bags with the nonchalance of a proper queen. Between drinks with her besties and exuding enough sexy imagery to fill a theater, she’s completely dismissive of anything or anyone in her way - just as she should be, given the level of energy and dominance on display. She puts it best herself once more: “Don’t call me cocky, I’m arrogant.”

Keisha has always been destined for superstardom ever since she was a little girl growing up in Decatur, GA. As a young kid trying to find her voice, she would spend her spare time freestyling. It was just for fun at first, but soon crowds of classmates were crowded around to hear her rap. To say that she was comfortable in front of an audience would be an understatement, and as her persona grew, so did the audiences around her. She officially launched her career as an entertainer with her first track, “Weather,” in 2017. The song was a viral smash with over two million streams, and suddenly a star was born.

She has always been a woman who knows how to attract the right kind of attention, so it was no surprise when legendary record executive L.A. Reid sought her out to join his record label, Hitco Entertainment. “Everybody can’t be signed to L.A. Reid,” she says to The Fader. “He only signs what he believes are superstars.” With her profile higher than ever, she established herself as a true artist with her first mixtape, “That’s Just the Bottom Line,” which she aptly describes as “Good ass-shaking music and also some good ass R’n’B.”

Building on that momentum, LightSkinKeisha was featured on Miami rapper Trina’s 2019 single, "On His Face." The gleefully raunchy track finds Keisha embracing personality traits that women in show business have often been forced to keep hidden. “For a minute it was frowned upon,” she explains. “This girl too loud, she too outspoken. But I’m gonna be me regardless.”

Keisha quickly followed up “On His Face” with her acclaimed six-track mixtape Act Up Szn featuring artist, Kash Doll. The project garnered the attention of millions, resulting in her recent nomination for Best New R&B Artist at the 2020 iHeart Music Awards. It should come as no surprise that LightSkinKeisha’s success will not be confined to the music industry alone. In 2020, she embarked on a new journey, alongside rapper beau, Coca Vango, on season 10 of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, documenting her life as an active femcee.

But the grind never stops for LightSkinKeisha. Having dropped three albums in the past two years - ClonesTalk that Talk, and Break the Bank - she’s already prepping the release of her next full project. In addition to being a fierce emcee, Keisha is also making waves as an actress, and currently stars as recurring character and main character Tariq's classmate, BruShandria Carmichael, in the Starz's series Power Book II: Ghost.
